Your Big Year
Your Big Year is a Smaller Earth initiative to encourage entrepreneurship and global citizenship.
It is the opportunity of a lifetime with the chance to travel across 5 continents over one year, to participate in meaningful service projects, and to engage community & world leaders. The competition is a featured event of Global Entrepreneurship Week as it links the entrepreneurial spirit to global citizenship.
Jonathan Ortmans, president of Global Entrepreneurship Week, said of the competition, "We are proud that this fantastic international competition is one of Global Entrepreneurship Week's featured activities and believe it will again bring many people from many backgrounds to the theme of entrepreneurship and the positive impact it invariably has."
The inaugural competition in 2010 attracted 45,000 individuals to enter from 168 countries. The 24 finalists, representing 17 countries, were flown to compete in the finals for "the Apprentice" style challenges in Liverpool, United Kingdom.
Two Global Ambassadors emerged from the competition - Michael Teoh of Malaysia and Carielle Doe of the United States. They are currently traveling the world and have worked with children, animals, and communities through out their adventure.
