FAQs

Is it possible to travel with friends?

Of course! We can provide accommodation for friends, but we cannot guarantee a shared room for a couple (although sometimes it is possible). It is important to let us know in time that there are more of you and you are interested in living together (or a room).

Where and how does the lifeguard course take place?

The lifeguard course takes place in Slovakia, in Banská Štiavnica, most often in the months of January to March. The price of the course is $300 and includes a lifeguard manual, whistle, CPR mask, lifeguard sweatshirt, entrance to the pool, which is closed only to course participants, pool operator information. The course begins Thursday afternoon and runs through Sunday, and is led by a certified American Red Cross instructor.

After successful completion of the summer season, the employer will reimburse you part of the course price in the amount of $150.

Due to the current situation, the dates of the course will be adapted to the current regulations of the ÚVZ (you can get specific information about the lifeguard course by phone). It is also possible that you will be able to complete the interview with the employer online even before the lifeguard course.

What are the terms of the program?

The Work and Travel program has only one condition: be an active full-time student at a college or university.

To work as a lifeguard, it is still necessary to be able to swim 3 x 100 meters and to have better English basics in order to master the lifeguard course.

What course do I need to complete to take part in the program?

Before traveling to the USA it is necessary to complete a lifeguard course and obtain an American Red Cross certificate.

Courses are held in Slovakia with a certified lecturer and you will also meet your future employer during the course. The course lasts three days and is organized in the months of January - March.

Each course starts with a preliminary so that you and we can be sure that you can handle the course.

The cost of the course is $300, but at the end of the summer you will receive a bonus of $150 as reimbursement for part of the cost of the lifeguard course.

You can find more about the lifeguard course and precursor here.

What are the dates that I would be away for?

The dates of work depend on the employer.

Arrival in the USA is possible between May 15 and June 30. The sooner you travel to the USA, the higher your earnings for the summer.

The end of work is possible between September 2 and 15.

On early arrival in the USA (until 24/05/2024) every student is provided with an extra bonus of $500 to reduce the program fee.

What does a lifeguard job involve?

Even if lifeguard work looks like summer fun, it is responsible work that requires concentration and attention.

The main content of the job is ensuring the safety of pool visitors and ensuring the cleanliness of the pools and their surroundings.

You will also be in charge of water quality control, ensuring the operation of the pool's filtration, checking the chemicals in the pool and, of course, in cases where the situation also require providing first aid and cooperation of medical personnel.

But most of your job will be preventing injuries and it's not a "Baywatch" job where you save someone every day. Sometimes lifeguard work is even more suitable for girls. Each year, approximately the same number of girls as boys travel to the USA for Premier Aquatics.

Is accommodation provided?

Accommodation is provided by the employer in accessibility to swimming pools - it is within 6 miles from work. Pools and accommodation are located in an area within 100 km from Washington D.C, most often in the state of Virginia. Accommodation is furnished with furniture, beds, cooking utensils, and the accommodation fee also includes housing costs (electricity, ...).

The cost of accommodation is $1800 for the whole summer and a non-refundable deposit of $200 is paid in addition to this - paid in 5 installments of $400 as payroll deduction. Accommodation is provided to lifeguards for a single price during the entire period of work.
